National Muffin Day

Did you know that this Thursday is National Muffin Day? Every February 20th, we celebrate this simple yet highly enjoyable baked treat. The term “muffin” may be rooted to the French term “moufflet” meaning “soft bread”. The muffin that most of us know today was developed in the United States around the 19th century when English immigrants brought their traditional recipes over. Their recipes were revised over time, culminating in a denser and sweeter pastry with a cake-like texture. Today, muffins are typically served during breakfast as a sweet pick-me-up. But across the pond, they’re served with afternoon tea and topped with butter or jam. Whether you prefer your muffin in the morning with coffee or later in the day with a cup of tea, there’s no wrong time to enjoy this delightful pastry. Stop in to pick up a few from our bakery or bake a batch at home by following one of our muffin recipes.
