Here are two fun facts for National Cheesecake Day: the earliest form of cheesecake was traced to the 5th century B.C. on the Greek island of Samos. Fresh cheese that was pounded smooth and mixed with flour and honey. The main ingredient in modern cheesecake, cream cheese, was invented on accident by William Lawrence in 1872, when he was attempting to replicate the recipe for Neufchâtel, a soft French cheese.
