Cheers to Craft Beer Week
We are celebrating American craft beers all week long! Did you know that the term “craft beer” refers to beers that come from small, independent breweries? Craft beers emphasize taste and quality over their large-scale, mass-produced counterpart. The modern craft beer movement in the United States is said to have begun around the 1960’s, which led to the popularity of home-brewing in the 1970’s, and the rise of microbreweries in the 1990’s. With decades of experimentation and innovation, many new beer styles arose along with new flavors. Here are some local craft brewers we’ll be sampling at our San Carlos store.
Original Pattern Brewing Company is an award-winning, Oakland-based, employee-owned brewery and tasting room. Named amongst the Top 10 Best New Breweries in USA Today. Original Pattern is known for showcasing the unique and hard to get New Zealand hops in many of their beers. Sample Original Pattern this Wednesday, May 14th, from 3-5 pm.
Alpha Acid Brewing Company is a Belmont-based brewery that is known as “the small-batch kings” since they release two new beers weekly and have over 500 unique recipes on file. Founded in 2014, Alpha Acid named themselves after the component of hops that determines a beer’s bitterness level (IBU). Their goal is to deliver a distinctive beer experience, one that you won’t find anywhere else. Sample Alpha Acid Brewery this Thursday, May 15th, from 3-6 pm.
Barebottle Brewing Company is a San Francisco-based, crowd-inspired, craft brewery. Founded in 2007 by three friends and former classmates at Cornell Business School. After becoming beer judges, they noticed that oftentimes the most innovative beers in America are created by homebrewers. With this notion, they began Barebottle Brewing Company. Barebottle uses local ingredients whenever possible and has partnered with local homebrewing groups to share ideas and develop new beers. Sample Barebottle this Friday, May 16th, from 2-6 pm.
Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company is an award-winning, full-scale brewery located in San Carlos. Family-owned and operated from the beginning, Devil’s Canyon creates premium handcrafted beers using only the finest ingredients available. A key value at Devil’s Canyon is sustainability. Through innovative recycling and composting programs during the brewing process, Devil’s Canyon has become a symbol of sustainable waste management. Installing 270 solar panels has allowed Devil’s Canyon to reduce their environmental impact and provide enough electricity to power the brewery and more.
