Let’s Get Cooking with Herbs and Spices!
June 10th is National Herbs and Spices Day, a day to celebrate the wonderful and diverse flavors that fresh and dried seasonings can bring to cooking. It’s no secret that a few select herbs and spices can heighten a dish, taking it from tasty to mouthwatering. To celebrate National Herbs and Spices Day, take a peek at your seasoning collection then head over to Bianchini’s to restock your favorite herbs and spices. Grilled Five Spice Chicken
Tender and juicy chicken with incredible flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons minced ginger
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice
- 1/2 tablespoon sea salt
- 4 whole star anise, finely ground
Directions
Cut the chicken down the middle to butterfly. Trim any excess fat and rinse with water. Pat dry with paper towels. Set aside.
Combine the vegetable oil, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sugar, turmeric, Chinese Five Spice and salt in a bowl. Stir together until well mixed.
Place the chicken into a large container. Pour the season ing mix over the chicken and coat evenly. Turn the chicken several times to get a good coating. Cover the container and place int he refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours.
Bring grill to medium heat.
Remove chicken from the container and sprinkle the ground star anise on the chicken. Be sure to evenly coat.
Place the chicken skin side up on the grill. Cook for 10 minutes, then flip the chicken over and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
Remove chicken from the grill and transfer to a cutting board. Cut chicken into four servings and enjoy!
