National Chicken Wing Day
Tuesday, July 29th
One of the tastiest foodie holidays lands this Wednesday: National Chicken Wing Day. The story starts back in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, where owner Teressa Bellissimo whipped up a late-night snack. Instead of saving the wings for the next day’s soup stock, she deep-fried them, tossed them in butter and her own homemade hot sauce — and just like that, the Buffalo wing was born.
The craze caught on fast. By July 29, 1977, the city of Buffalo had officially proclaimed National Chicken Wing Day in the wing’s hometown. Hot and spicy or sweet and saucy, there’s a wing for every craving — so celebrate with us: grab a batch, pick your favorite sauce, and get tossing.
