Just in time for the beginning of Fall, our stores have a special delivery of everyone’s favorite gourd, pumpkins! While the traditional pumpkin we envision is tall, round and orange, pumpkins come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. While many enjoy baking delicious pumpkin pies and treats in October, the most popular activity by far is carving Jack-o’- Lanterns. The tradition began around the 1900’s in Ireland with root vegetables like rutabaga. Faces were carved into them and a lump of coal was placed in the bottom to create a lantern. These lanterns were intended to ward off evil spirits and supernatural beings. During your next shopping trip, pick up a pumpkin.
