The Pick of the Patch

We are only a few weeks into Fall, and our stores already have a special delivery of everyone’s favorite orange squash, pumpkins! The pumpkins we usually think of are orange, big, and round with lines running from top to bottom. But pumpkins come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, like short and round, small like a baseball, yellow, green, and even white. While many people enjoy baking their pumpkin into tasty treats, the most popular activity is carving Jack-o’-Lanterns. The tradition started in Ireland around the 1900s with turnips. People carved faces into them and put a piece of coal inside to make a lantern. These lanterns were meant to keep away evil spirits and strange creatures. The tradition came to America with Irish and Scottish immigrants. They started using pumpkins because they were easier to carve. On your next visit to our store, choose from our pumpkin selection to find the perfect one for baking, carving, or decorating.
