Monday, October 9th, has never been tastier, because it’s International Pizza and Beer Day! One of the best food and drink pairings of all time. Pizza and beer both have centuries of history that spans the world over. While often associated with Italy, pizza’s origins can be traced to 600 B.C. with the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. They were known to grind cereal grains to make flour, which was formed into a flatbread then coated in olive oil and spices. The recipe evolved over the centuries until it became the pizza we all know and love today, with tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings. While beer has an even longer history, dating back to 5000 B.C., with the earliest mention narrowed down to Egypt and Mesopotamia. Making beer one of the oldest drinks produced by humans.
